Airborne Microbes over Urban Environment
We have investigated the microbial composition of the atmospheric particulate matter (<10 μm), sampled in Northwest Turkey, and looked for links between them and the chemical components, and different environmental factors.
In this interdisciplinary study, we showed that air trajectory and wind speed allow sample separation to local and distant origin. This followed the conclusion that marine and mineral dust as well as Ascomycota are probably originating from distant sources. In addition, anthropogenic ions and antibiotic resistance genes seem to dominate local air samples.
